The 27th concert season of Music in a Great Space continues with Una Voce, the chamber choir of Seton Hill University.
Seton Hill University’s Una Voce will offer the Pennsylvania premiere of Dr. Stephen Caldwell’s work, Pre-Existing Condition. In 2016, Stephen and his wife, Maura, were expecting their first child. During a routine visit, it was discovered that their unborn son had a quartet of life-threatening heart abnormalities known as Tetrology of Fallot. It was unclear at the time if the baby would survive. During his first year, young William had two open-heart surgeries to repair the issues with his heart. To process this, Dr. Caldwell composed Pre-Existing Condition, a choral/instrumental work which took third place in the America Prize for composition. Scored for choir, piano, flute, and percussion, the work is a musical representation of the family’s journey.
